Superb example of Diana standing proud on enamel a pearl leaves Her robes set with rubies and sapphires. in one hand the bow the other holding a chain with pearl spaces attached to her two pave ruby set hounds. dolphins finely enamelled either side holding a finely engraved rock crystal bowl the base enhanced on a enamel and silver gilt foot mount fully Marked HB For Herman Bohm A for Austria Diana, in Roman religion, goddess of wild animals and the hunt, identified with the Greek goddess Artemis. Her name is akin to the Latin words dium (“sky”) and dius (“daylight”). Like her Greek counterpart, she was also a goddess of domestic animals. Provenance: Private collection London
